Getting a job interview is an accomplishment, but you still have work to do if you want to get the job offer. The best thing you could do is to be prepared. Don’t show up to the interview without doing some homework first. Have a notebook ready.
- Research the company Review the company’s website to make sure you understand what they do.
- Read up on their projects, future plans and goals. This will help you answer questions — and stand out from less-prepared candidates.
- Make some notes in your notebook, sometimes you get nervous during an interview.
Prepare
Review average starting salaries for this position. Look up the person you are interviewing with on LinkedIn. This may give you an advantage during the interview because you’ll have a better chance of connecting with them. Generate a list of questions that may be asked by the interviewer. Some common questions include:
* Tell me about yourself?
* What interests you about this role?
* Why should we hire you?
* What are your goals, hobbies, etc
* What are your salary requirements?
* Practice your responses.
What to bring?
* Copy of your resume on quality paper
* Notepad and pen (with your notes, questions, etc)
* References
* Portfolio with samples of your work, if relevant to the job
What to ask?
Jot down a few questions in your notepad. Cover information that was not previously discussed or on the website. For example,
* “Can you give me specific details about the positions day to day responsibilities?”
* “How will my performance be evaluated?”
* “What is the next step in the hiring process?”
What to wear?
Dress to impress. Make sure your clothes are wrinkle-free. Be sure your overall appearance is neat and clean.
Most importantly, be on time!
